Working six days a week, unlike five in most sought after professions, teaching is a demanding job. This is a sufficient reason for claiming a break once in a while. But, as you may realize, we are speaking of educational institutions; and it is scholars who work in there. Perhaps, they (we) know exactly the time when they (we) need a break. MVGR College of Engineering has thus this practice of organizing a picnic for all its employees with their families. This year, my first year at this college, I was given the opportunity to conduct few games to engage my colleagues. The task is done with some sweat, effort, and pain. But there was an equal share of entertainment. And I made some new friends too!
I would not want to describe the details of the picnic and make my post look like a technical report. But, in short, there were almost a hundred adult participants, and fifty eligible (I mean, kids
) participants. The place was a garden (allegedly) somewhere close to Savaravilli, Vizag. Women participants pooled up to play a couple of rounds of ‘Housie’, while Men had their idiosyncratic ways of killing time with Playing Cards, Cricket, and Volley Ball. Few couples (actually COUPLES) took part in games. And many couples ended up searching for their spouses when it was gift-giving time. Kids wanted us to conduct games and competitions till each one of them got a prize, and I failed miserably in explaining them the philosophy behind giving a prize. Entertainment was so much that there was only one active photographer who clicked whatever caught his eye; but then, there was only one, and he could not see much. Satire was a little more than comedy, or perhaps comedy is what satire is meant to be: The day gave opportunity to cut across hierarchies as they exist in the college, and speak everyone’s heart out. Fruits and Sweets nourished the participants, while the opportunity to take-away Gifts definitely engaged the participants. Need I say more? Watch a few snaps in the slideshow here.
